Big Stu and MJ are up for Most Popular Radio DJ, while the show is a finalist in the Most Popular Program or Station award.
Both categories have 10 finalists, and the winners will be announced at the Tamworth Music Festival on Thursday.
The pair were nominated and voted for by their loyal fan base, which is made up of locals as well as listeners from around the world.
Big Stu said it was “quite a buzz” to be nominated and shortlisted by their fans.
“It’s fantastic,” Big Stu said.
“We’ve been doing the show for a little over 18 months, so to gain that kind of traction with listeners in a short time … is quite exciting.”
Big Stu said the nominations were “quite satisfying”, given the program caters to a specific genre of country music called New Country.
“It’s very contemporary,” Big Stu said.
“It’s not the traditional sounding country music.
““The whole mission for our show is to bring new fans to country.”
The show is broadcast through the Hills, Holroyd and Parramatta districts on Thursday nights, and has reached a global audience through online streaming.
“One of the interesting things we’ve done is use Spotify, which traditional radio sees as a threat,” Big Stu said.
“But we have a Planet Country account and put up playlists on there, so if someone misses the show they can use Spotify and listen to the playlist.
“We use Spotify to then source new artists out of the States; locally we use our own social media contacts.”
The pair left for Tamworth on Sunday, where they will host interviews for their radio show and also take time out to enjoy the atmosphere and discover new artists.
“There’s huge, huge talent coming through in Australia and particularly in the new country music,” Big Stu said.
Listeners who tune in on Thursday night will hear Big Stu and MJ preparing for the awards ceremony, but will have to wait until the following week to find out if they won.
“We’ll be on the line while we get ready,” Big Stu said.
